Invented in Europe
in the 14th century, letterpress is the printing process that replaced
hand-drawn calligraphy. By using metal type and blocks with raised images
embossed onto them, printers could press words and images into the printed
surface – not just printing graphics but also creating shaped indentations
of them in the paper.
Today letterpress
survives as an art form that radiates grace and elegance. Quality letterpress
printing requires skill and a great love of the craft – resulting
in a clean, sharp image that leaves a lasting impression. |
